Description of Responsibilities:
The Associate‘s core duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting MOJ and OAG management to:
•Establish a formal Gender Sub-Unit within the MOJ Gender Unit;
•Educate OAG/PP staff on key gender concepts and gender issues;
•Develop the necessary gender expertise within the Sub-Unit related to the prosecution function;
•Create a formal interface with the OAG/PP Human Rights Unit;
•In coordination with other OAG/PP specialists, contractors or staff, oversee the implementation of gender-related training programs;
•Work with other gender experts on gender programming;
•Analyze and identify systemic issues and practices that create barriers for women and girls and develop strategies or tools to address them;
•Prepare outreach material for women and girls to raise their awareness; and
•Develop networks with civil society organizations, universities and other institutions working in the field of gender.
Impact of Results
•Successful completion of the tasks explained in the previous paragraph. Successful and timely delivery of all activities and products
•Provision of support to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in Ramallah and the
Public Prosecution Service (PP) across the Palestinian Authority
•Establish an OAG-focused Gender Sub-Unit at the MOJ Human Rights Unit
•Assist the OAG to effectively identify, analyze, and respond to gender issues related to the prosecution function
Competencies :
• Ability to relay information, as appropriate, and to collect, analyze and evaluate data for reports and future planning;
•Possess tactfulness and the ability to provide professional leadership;
•Ability to work effectively under conditions of limited or dual supervision, high stress and rapidly changing situations and circumstances;
•Ability to transfer knowledge or skills;
•Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines;
•Ability to use computer software related to an office environment (Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent);
•Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, both Palestinian and international.
Qualifications :
Education:
•Master’s degree in gender studies, development studies or related field; Additional years of relevant work experience, preferably in combination with a relevant bachelor’s degree, may substitute for the requirement for a master’s degree field
Experience:
• Five (5) years of experience working in gender issues.
•Previous experience working in the public sector;
•Previous experience building gender capacities in a large institution;
•Previous experience working with lawyers or other legal professionals;
•Knowledge of Palestinian justice sector, in particular prosecutions;
•A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of the Sharaka Project and the OAG/PP
Language Requirements:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in Arabic;
•Ability to communicate (written and verbal) in English
